As the final project in a course called Fundamentals of Machine Shop Operations, I fabricated a tesla turbine, a bladeless turbine that uses the boundary layer effect to spin. During the process, I machined each part with operations such as the CNC and manual mill, as well as the lathe. Although it is mostly made out of aluminum, there are a few parts that are made from stainless steel and plastic. When it was tested, it spun up to 24,000 RPM!
