In the fall of 2015, videos of pancake art were constantly going viral. Inspired by the beauty of the designs, but limited by our artistic abilities, my team mates and I decided to do what any engineers would: build a machine that does what we couldn't. Thus, the CNC pancake printer was born. As the final project in our Principals of Engineering course, we built a full system that can extrude pancake batter in any pattern or image the user would like. Over the course of eight weeks, we built three versions of the printer, iterating and adding to the design each time. In the end, we created a two axis gantry, custom batter extrusion mechanism, and a full user interface that combine seamlessly to create Pancake CNC.
